Rugger raffle

At Majedie we are a HUGE fan of raffles; quick, efficient, democratic. And our latest was no exception. As the prize we had 2 pairs of tickets to the England VS Scotland RBS Six Nations games at Twickenham! With representatives from almost all of those six nations in the office, this was quite the sought after prize.

£670 later and we have very lucky two winners, well done to you both, we’re sure you’ll have a wonderful time.

The best news about this is that it pushes our total for the year so far to OVER £5,000! Well done to all Maj-ites and another duck into the Duck-O-Meter!

You must be quackers!

Did you guess what the fluffy surprise was? In order to keep warm and raise the difficulty factor, we decided to run dressed as ducks and what a wonderful waddle it was!

The forecast predicted temperatures below 0c and, my goodness, didn’t it feel like it on the day! Luckily we had our trusty duck onsies to keep us warm. Unsurprisingly for Cancer Research, the event was meticulously organised with lots of fun activities such as a warm up at the start line provided with some high octane music to get the blood pumping. Of course it wasn’t just the Majedie runners who swapped their cosy warm beds early on Sunday morning to get out and do some worthwhile fundraising, we also had a wonderful support team who took the following photos:

CRWRJamesTLook at them go! Despite the odd choice of attire, almost all of the Majedie runners finished sub 1 hour with both boys finishing in under 50 minutes, that’s some seriously fast flipper action!

And of course the most important bit, the fundraising. Majedie are delighted to announce that we raised several thousand pound, over £1,000 on which is on it’s way to Cancer Research and the remainder will go to childrens charities As always we’re delighted to be affiliated with these incredibly important charities so a big thank you to Cancer Research for the wonderful event and a thank you to those that attended for your support!

Running towards the weekend!

This weekend we have eight runners entered the Cancer Research Winter 10K on Sunday 1st Feb, wish us luck!

P.S. If you look out for us, you might get a fluffy surprise…

New Year, new motivation!

Happy New Year readers.

As is traditional at this point in the New Year, it’s good to take a retrospective view at what was achieved. Given that this was intended to be a ‘quiet’ year on the charity front, we’ve made the rather impressive sum of over £18,000 for such charities as Tommy’s, Macmillan Cancer Support, Richard House, The Ghana Education Project, Save the Children, Help for Heroes…the list goes on! Thank you so much to all of the charities that have worked with us in providing places (and in one case an entire boat) for races and for supporting us with fundraising materials, training plans and sometimes even cheerleaders!

Also traditional at this time of year is to make plans for the future, building upon past successes to improve and grow. We’ve already got a few ideas and events in the pipeline so watch this space for opportunities to get involved!

Christmas Jumper Day

More fun Christmas goings on! Today is Christmas Jumper Day across the UK meaning the usual muted tones of Paternoster Square patrons have been interspersed with slashes of reds and greens from amusing novelty knits. The Majedie Asset Management office is no different. After the clients had gone back to their own offices (no doubt in a hurry to pull on their own ‘I heart Santa’ sweaters), some of the staff donned their finest and brightest woollen wear to much hilarity, with Steph winning the number 1 prize for ‘Best Christmas Jumper’. Well Done Steph! As always, the Majedie fun has a philanthropic aim; to raise money for Save the Children. And indeed, in the same week that we raised £1,000 for The Ghana Education Project,  we’ve raised a whopping £484 for the wonderful people over at Save the Children. Xmas Jumpers

Science in Ghana!

With everyone in the Christmas spirit, it seemed a good time to raise some money for a good cause. This time it was a charity very dear to our own Legal eagle Caroline’s heart: The Ghana Education Project. They’re currently trying to raise money for a new science block in the Kyabobo School for Girls so, with the help of a very generous donation from The Telegraph’s ‘Alex’ cartoon, we set about selling raffle tickets.

Thanks to incredibly generous donations from all of the Majedie Team, we managed to raise a whopping

£1,000

That’s a lot of litmus paper! Every penny goes straight to the school for important supplies that really do make a huge difference so well done to Caroline for organising and thank you to Majedie for being so generous!

Richard House Games Evening

Happy December folks!

Last week one of our brilliant charities Richard House invited us to join their Young Adults Group for a Fun & Games Evening at their base in East London. Frankly, Majedie staff can’t resist the promise of balloon animals and cake so a few of us jumped on the DLR, heading toward the warm welcome of American style games and mocktails expertly mixed by the members of the Group.

What an evening! First, the Film Club debuted their excellent New York gangstar mini-movie- all parts played by the exceptionally talented staff, Young Adults and siblings- the villainous title character Alcapuss thrillingly terrifying. This was followed by a highly informative Question Time session focusing on the role of Richard House in the lives of the Young Adults, their families and overall development.

Richard House Games

Next up, GAMES! Jenga, hoopla, cups, basketball, 10-can-knockdown…so many games! One Maj-ite, Charlie, was fortunate enough to be on the winning green team, receiving a gold medal. Sadly for her (but happily for the Maj-ites that couldn’t make it) the medal wasn’t chocolate and it now takes pride of place in our office.

Thanks for a great evening Richard House!
